Paradise Cay once again headed to Clemson this past weekend for the fall Western Carolina Arabian Horse Show and came home with a fist full of ribbons. It was an absolute perfect weekend in the upstate and the pinnacle of the show was Cherrish MCA (Thee Desperado x SL Alicia – an Alidaar daughter). She took both the blue ribbon and championship ribbon in the Sport Horse in Hand Mares 2 and over class along with the blue ribbon in the mares 4 years and older class in halter. In the Senior Champion Mares Halter class she won Reserve Champion. Cherrish was calm, cool, and knew when to turn on the athleticism and charm for the judges. Led by Sue Ward, the two of them were amazing! Congratulations to Sue & Cherrish. They really rocked the show and made our fun time even more spectacular. Cherrish is available for purchase so if you are looking for a stunning mare with a wonderful personality and some show experience, she’s your gal. She is poised and ready for additional success in the ring and in the breeding shed. To learn more about Cherrish MCA, check out our sales page.

Continual learning is a must in any business but is most important when your goal is to produce quality foals with excellent temperament, conformation, and pedigree. With this in mind, attending the annual National Breeders Conference is a must for Paradise Cay. This year’s conference was focused on breeding and reproduction. It brought together many experts in the field of genetics and breeding and turned out to be an excellent exchange of information. It also proved to be a great place to network with other breeders with the same goals. Education is the key to growing our farm and preserving the Straight Egyptian Arabian. It is our passion and it’s fun!

Sport Horse Nationals is all about performance. Arabians and Half Arabians competing in classes like Dressage, Hunter-Jumper, Carriage Driving, and Sport Horse in Hand and under saddle. It shows off the versatility of our lovely Arabians and it was a great show held in the newly renovated Kentucky Horse Park show grounds. We met great new friends and cheered them on as they worked together with their horses to be in the ribbons. A great pair we enjoyed watching was Clare Morrow and the Stallion Beau Bridges. Competing in Dressage, Sport Horse, and Show Hack, they were very elegant and it was clear they had a wonderful bond. This photo is of the two of them winning Top Ten in Sport Horse Show Hack. We are excited about performance competition and we strive here at Paradise Cay to breed athletic horses who can one day compete at this National level. If you’re interested in starting or adding to your herd, we have several performance candidates available for your consideration.

During the week of July 20th, Paradise Cay Arabians hosted a summer youth group from the South East Community Church Child Development Center in Columbia, South Carolina. The event participants were children ages 5 – 10 who had never been to a farm or had the opportunity to see a horse up close. Using an interactive approach, the folks at Paradise Cay educated the children on the care and feeding; safety; living environment; and on all the ways you can have fun with horses. The children immediately bonded with the horses and all vowed to come back to celebrate their birthdays with their new four legged friends. It was a great experience for everyone and an outstanding way to get children involved with Arabians. Another visit for an older group of children is planned for later in the summer.

An important part of our mission as a farm is to continue the legacy of the Egyptian Arabian breed. Carefully matching mares and stallions to result in not only those qualities that make Arabians unique, but just as important correct and strong conformation for performing with ease under saddle those disciplines that we all love. To this end, over the weekend of June 27th Paradise Cay welcomed Liz Salmon to our farm.

As an international judge and journalist who travels three continents each year attending major international and national Arabian shows, Liz is an expert when it comes to objectively evaluating Arabians and helping breeders make sound breeding and training decisions. She is very well respected around the world and we were very fortunate to have her visit our farm and meet our herd. Her evaluations are part of our ongoing education and will certainly help us in our goal of breeding world class foals and providing the very best to our clients to make their horse dreams come true.

The Event is the world’s largest showcase for the Egyptian Arabian horse and has long been viewed as one of the most important shows to attend on the international Arabian event calendar. Held at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY, the show runs the first week in June and I know I say this every year, but this was a great week filled with amazing horses; awesome friends; new acquaintances; and lots of show fun!

Our very own mare, Asils Emira (Thee Asil x Desperados Pride) was shown to a top five win (4th) in the Extended Specialty Halter class; and shown to top ten honors with Sue Ward competing in the World Class 4-5 year olds against many seasoned professional handlers and horses. Sue was totally in control and with grace and gentle handling she showed Emira beautifully garnering a 7th place win–they rocked! The most exciting class for me was when Bill, my husband, showed for the first time ever Emira in the novice class. He too was a calm leader and he and Emira sailed into the ring showing first and walking away with top ten honors outshining more than half of the 21 horses in the class.

It is always fun to spend time with your friends; meet new horse lovers and connect with those who value the Egyptian Arabian and preserving its legacy. We are truly blessed to have people in our lives with such passion and dedication to helping others succeed. We invite you to come visit Paradise Cay and we will be sure to give you all the details of our trip and introduce you to our four legged family. They make our lives so much more meaningful and fulfilled! Hope to see you soon – Cheryl Corcoran

Our final foal of 2009 arrived Friday afternoon May 15th. Delivered by our stunning black mare, Noir Desir (Alixir x Desperita) and out of the majestic bay stallion The Singleton (Thee Desperado x Alia Riyala). This filly is beyond a dream. She is Dahmah Shahwaniya in strain from the Farida branch that has through the years produced some of the most beautiful, typey, uniformly balanced, and exquisite moving Arabians in the world–Ansata Ibn Halima, Ansata Ibn Shah, El Hilal, Ramses Fayek, and Helwa to name only a few.

In addition to her regal pedigree, wonderfully balanced conformation and sweet personality, she will be black like her dam. A rare color indeed for the Egyptian Arabian. She is also futurity nominated and an Egyptian Breeders Cup challenge foal who is eligible to compete for cash prizes during the 2010 Egyptian Event at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY.

We are blessed to have such a foal and invite you to learn more about her and her pasture mates here at Paradise Cay.
